Skin Tears:
  • Cause assessment – hydration, nutrition, prevent trauma, control edema, good skin care
  • Patient centered concerns – quality of life, pain control, educate patient and family
  • Debridement – non-viable tissue only, avoid sutures / staples
  • Inflammation and infection control – antimicrobials for local infections, systemic antibiotics for deep tissue infection, tetanus 
What we do:
  • First aid for superficial wounds (require cleansing and dressing), in order to prevent complications and preserve function.
  • Prevent infection; assure there are no associated injuries.
  • Control bleeding.
